Where to buy smart lockers: metal vs MFC, China vs local, lead times and scaling

The best place to buy lockers depends on the site, the look the building owner wants, your budget, your timeline and how many sites you plan to roll out. Imported metal lockers are usually cheaper in bulk; locally made MFC lockers blend into interiors and are quicker to adapt. Whichever you choose, the hardware only becomes a business when it runs on software — that is where LockerLauncher comes in.

The decision in five questions

1. Where will the lockers go — inside a lobby, an office, a club, or outdoors? 2. Does the building owner want them to match the interior? 3. How quickly do you need them? 4. How many sites will you roll out in the next year? 5. What is your total budget including delivery and installation?

Metal or MFC?

A common approach is a standard metal locker bank wrapped in the operator's or building's brand — a lower-cost route that still looks finished.

Buying from Chinese manufacturers

Alibaba, Made-in-China and AliExpress list many experienced smart locker manufacturers exporting parcel lockers, glass-door food lockers, refrigerated lockers, luggage lockers, key lockers and sports-rental kiosks. Many offer custom sizes, colours, canopies, touchscreens and your branding.

Benefits: competitive unit prices, wide choice and capacity for bulk orders. Watch-outs: production plus sea freight can take weeks to months, and you must budget for shipping, duty, VAT or sales tax, customs clearance and local electrical compliance. Ask for samples or a factory video, certificates and the lock and controller specification.

Buying locally

Local MFC manufacturers, joiners and fit-out companies can build to measure, match the interior and install quickly. Local steel locker makers can offer shorter lead times and easier repairs. Expect higher unit prices in some markets, offset by lower delivery costs and faster service.

Lead times, customisation and scalability

Custom manufacture takes longer than standard modules — allow time for drawings, approval, production and delivery. If you plan to scale, standardise on a small number of locker modules so spare parts, installation and training stay simple across sites. Keep at least one local partner for repairs even if you import.
