Starting a sports equipment rental service with lockers

Sports equipment lockers let players borrow and return rackets, balls and kit at a club or leisure centre without waiting for reception. Tennis, squash and padel rackets and balls, golf clubs and accessories are typical starting points, provided compartments fit the items and inspection responsibilities are clear.

Choose equipment that suits the venue

Start with the activity people already book. A padel venue might want a small stock of rackets and balls for occasional players. Golf equipment needs larger compartments. Measure complete bags and accessories, not just the main item.

Separate return from readiness

A returned racket may be damaged, wet or incomplete. Record the return and keep the item unavailable until it has been checked. Allow time for cleaning, checks and replacement between bookings.

Decide who owns the stock

You could own the equipment and share hire revenue with the venue, or the club could own it and pay for a managed locker service. Agree who covers replacements and who answers members' questions.

Track what matters

Track utilisation, late returns, missing accessories, inspection time and maintenance costs. Any deposit or damage charge must be clearly explained and supported by your payment arrangement.

Next step: Speak to a club about one equipment category and a limited trial.

Start with one location

Tell us the problem you want to solve and where. You don't need every answer yet — "not sure" is fine.
