After-hours garage key lockers: a business opportunity

Garage key lockers help drivers drop off or collect keys outside staffed opening hours. You could offer the service to garages that want more flexible handovers, subject to a workable site and clear responsibility for access.

Understand the garage's problem

Ask how many customers arrive early, collect late or need a member of staff to wait. A useful service must improve a real workflow, not add another device.

Plan drop-off and collection separately

For drop-off, the driver deposits keys linked to the correct booking. For collection, the garage places the keys in a compartment and releases access after its own payment and approval steps.

Do not put a customer's address on an exposed key label. Key collection does not confirm vehicle condition or settle any separate dispute.

Offer a measurable pilot

A possible model is an installation charge plus a monthly service fee. Track after-hours handovers, staff time, support calls and customer feedback, and include a process for a lost code or failed door.

Next step: Interview three local garages and compare their current handover arrangements.

Start with one location

Tell us the problem you want to solve and where. You don't need every answer yet — "not sure" is fine.
